Change at the top of the editorial team of sportal.hu: The current editor-in-chief, István Kecskés, will leave sportal.hu and Tamás Szekeres, managing editor of sportal.hu, will take over as of April 25 the role of interim editor-in-chief.
Sportal.hu was created in October 2022 with the ambition to develop the platform into a leading sports media platform for Hungarian fans. After 18 months, sportal.hu regularly tops the charts of most-used specialized sports media outlets, reaching more than 1.5m fans each month.
Robin Lingg, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ringier Sports Media Group: “Since the launch of sportal.hu a year and a half ago, the sports media platform has successfully positioned itself on the Hungarian sports media map and become the most visited sports website. We are also proud of the fact that sportal.hu has an editorial team of outstanding professionals. I would like to thank István Kecskés for his development work. He will hand over his role as editor-in-chief to Tamás Szekeres, who will ensure the continuity of the professional management of the editorial team as editor-in-chief ad interim. In line with the strategy of Ringier Sports Media Group, our next step is to develop the sportal.hu brand into a digital pure player.”
Tamás Szekeres has been part of the “core team” of Sportal. He has been with the company since its launch in October 2022. The renowned sports journalist has had a successful career spanning forty years. Over the past decades, he has held several editor-in-chief positions: at the daily newspaper Nemzeti Sport and its online version between 2000 and 2005. Before that, he held the position of editor-in-chief of Vasárnapi Blikk and later of Bors daily. Before joining sportal.hu, he edited Blikk’s supplements for several years.
