Through the archival articles of its printed and online publications, the human-sized magazine installation of Ringier Hungary revives the last three decades of Budapest’s history. Memorable moments, emblematic locations and townspeople of the capital’s past can be found on the pages of GEO magazine, Kiskegyed, Blikk.hu, GLAMOUR magazine and other Ringier publications.
The Budapest Book Capital initiative aims to educate readers, to protect and develop the habit of reading, to which the publisher Ringier Hungary, which is celebrating its thirtieth anniversary of operation in Hungary this year, has joined with an outdoor installation depicting a magnified magazine, with lots of Budapest stories waiting to be re-read. Since the nineties, the well-known Ringier publications, such as Kiskegyed, Blikk, GLAMOUR, or GEO magazine, have been giving space to Budapest stories, locations and figures worth remembering. This is how the outdoor magazine included, among many others, the memories of the Amusement Park that closed in 2013, the diverse graffiti of Filatorigát, the stories of the secret gardens of the city centre, or fashion photos taken among the spectacular scenery of the capital.
“Although we do not publish books, but rather digital and print media, we and the world of books have a lot in common. We offer relaxation, entertainment, information, and the overall experience of reading, so we have a part and a task in supporting the reading person – i.e. the thinking, informed person. Our journalists have written so many colourful and memorable stories in the past three decades! Why not experience them again, together with our readers?”
Eszter Varga, Head of Corporate Communications, Ringier Hungary
